History:

Production started in April 1971 and available was only the 350SL (BM107.043) and 350SLC (BM107.023) with 3.5 liter V8 (M116), electronic fuel injection (Bosch D-Jetronic) and a 4-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic transmission as an option. The engine produced about 200 hp (5800 rpm) and 286 Nm of torque (4000 rpm). SL models came with a linen roof and a steel removable hardtop was available as an option. There was room for two adults and two children (2+2). The closed-body SLC model was 36 cm longer overall, giving it four full-size seats.
